What Every Girl Should Have… for overnight guests

If you have a spare bedroom…

Bare Necessities
Keep a dedicated set of guest sheets and towels which are always laundered so you can host at a moment’s notice. I keep mine folded in a basket so they are ready anytime.

Set aside an extra blanket for when it’s cold and an electric fan for when it’s warm. An alarm clock and tissue will round out your guest room.

The Extra Mile
Your guests might enjoy a small CD player to listen to music or the news if there is no television set in the room.

Set aside a few books and magazines so your guests can keep themselves entertained.

A scented candle is a nice touch to enhance room ambience.

If your guest will be sleeping on the couch

Bare Necessities
Invest in a set of twin sheets to use on your sofa. It may not be a perfect fit over the cushions, but your makeshift bed will be inviting.

Provide a pillow with a freshly laundered pillow case.

Lay out both a light and heavy blanket.

*If you have pets, try to confine them so they do not wake your guests.

In the bathroom…

Bare Necessities
Set aside a clean towel and washcloth.

The Extra Mile
Small guest soaps and travel size toiletries in their original packaging will be appreciated if they forget anything.

I keep new combs, tooth brushes and razors for guest use. It beats running to the store!

I also include cotton swabs and cotton balls in plain view.
In the kitchen…

Bare Necessities
Keep fruit and snacks visible so guests feel free to help themselves.
If your guest is a coffee drinker – make sure you have creamer and sugar.
If your guest is a tea drinker – have English breakfast tea for the morning and Chamomile/herbal tea for the evening.

Communication
If your children or pets have any dietary restrictions, be sure to let your guests know so they don't inadvertently cause problems.

Let your guest know in advance if you’re planning on dining in or out over the course of the visit. It will help him/her to plan their budget and wardrobe and give them an opportunity to let you know of any constraints they may have.
