I consider myself an expert at saving money on groceries, but I have been learning new lessons recently. Like my recent experience with organic produce, I learned that convenience foods are not always more expensive.

I was at Safeway this weekend shopping for ingredients for lasagna. As most of you know, lasagna isn't the cheapest meal to make. With cheese being a predominant ingredient, the price can add up. Luckily, the two pounds of Ricotta I needed happened to be on sale and the Parmesan was decently priced. I went to grab a ball of Mozzarella and was shocked to see that it was priced $2 more than the same amount of shredded Mozzarella. I saved $2 and didn't have to grate the cheese!

This is another good reminder for me to always pay attention to price, weight/volume and also packaging!
