Awhile back I received a gift card for a shopping mall that I don't normally visit. I saved the card until there was something special I wished to buy.
This weekend I decided to head to the mall to finally use the card. Thank goodness I looked at it before making the drive. Not only had the card expired, but the terms on the card were: after 7 months, there was a monthly $2.50 fee deducted from the card which continued until its expiration.
It's my bad for not paying attention to the card when I received it. Despite that, I find it ridiculous that a gift should be subject to a monthly fee!
I urge you to go through your wallet and take a close look at any gift cards and store credit that you may have. Reading the fine print may save you!
Also, check that fine print before purchasing a gift card for someone else.
