Generous Friends and Family Give Us a Great Head Start |

Typically, I like to spend the month of January detoxing from the spending I do in December. Since Dante joined us on the 2nd of January, it has been easy keeping my spending to a minimum. In anticipation of his birth, I spent November and December stocking our freezer and pantry. It’s the 17th of the month and I have only had to buy a half gallon of milk so far.
However, I can’t take much credit for our non-existent grocery bill. Our very generous friends and family have showered us with all platters of homemade meals. We have hardly touched the provisions I laid the past few months.
Note: If you know someone who is going to have a baby and want to do something special for them, drop off a casserole or a pot of soup. They will be grateful.
I haven’t had to spend any money on clothes for Dante just yet. On top of the clothes he received as shower gifts, I have been given bags of clothes from friends who have boys just a year ahead of Dante. He has inherited the most beautiful outfits.
I have cloth diapers ready to use, but at just shy of seven pounds, Dante is far too small to wear them yet. Luckily, I was given bags and bags of newborn diapers as shower gifts. I look forward to trying out the cloth diapers and seeing if they are feasible and if so, how much money I will save over disposable.
Note: Diapers make wonderful baby shower gifts.
The one area of savings that I can take credit for is breastfeeding. I have been very lucky as Dante took to it like a pro. I don’t have to worry about buying formula. This will save me hundreds of dollars in the months to come.
Through the kindness of our generous friends and family, Paul, Dante and I have been given a great head start as a family. We are so grateful for their love and support.
