My Ode to Oatmeal & Christmas Shopping Update |

I love breakfast! I especially love a hot breakfast that sticks to your ribs. During the work week I almost always enjoy a bowl of oatmeal. I prefer the Old Fashioned Oats over the flavored packets. I like to cook it with a dash of salt and cinnamon and a tablespoon or two of half and half to add creaminess. Once it's cooked, I add a bit of honey to sweeten it up.
One important note: if you cook your oatmeal in the microwave, put it in a BIG bowl. The oatmeal has a potential to "boil" over in the microwave. Oatmeal is not a fun mess to clean up.
Usually, if I have a bowl of oatmeal in the morning, I am set until lunch. My version has about 200-250 calories. The cost per serving is approximately 25 cents – not including the cinnamon and honey.
On occasion, I'll make corn meal mush instead of oatmeal. Corn meal mush is a little trickier to cook. You have to pour the corn meal in very slowly or you get lumps. It is higher in calories and lower on the nutrition scale than oatmeal, but it is a nice occasional treat. I make the corn meal mush with milk instead of water and I always add butter which accounts for the higher calorie content. The added calories are worth it for the added taste!
Holiday Shopping Update
Ok, so I missed my Thanksgiving deadline for getting my holiday shopping done. We are shy just three presents – my nephew Jordan, and Paul's step-mom and dad.
I promised Jordan's mom that I would get him an educational toy. Last weekend, Paul and I went to a local "toy" store called Learning Expressions. We were really surprised about how un-educational so many of the toys were. We struck out – but Paul did have a great time playing with the toy knights so it wasn't a complete loss.
Whether by computer or on foot, I will absolutely, positively finish my holiday shopping this weekend. Honest. I swear! Now I just have to hope I don't go into labor…
