My beloved 1990 Cadillac DeVille is terminal. After taking it into the dealership for an evaluation, the mechanic begged me to put the car out of its misery. Up until a month ago, it ran brilliantly. As with most things mechanical, it all started to fall apart at once - running rough on acceleration and then the air conditioner went out. I am in mourning. I love that car.
We purchased the Caddy in April of 2003 for just $100 from Paul's aunt. She was in a minor accident with it and the back door was a bit dented. Otherwise, the car was in great shape. I've had it for approximately 41 months, so I basically paid about $2.43 a month for it. Not bad. Especially, since it drove like a dream – until last month.
I doubt I will be able to come across another $100 deal, but I am on the lookout for a nice family car for under $10,000. I should be able to drive the Caddy for another month or two, so I can take my time to find the right car. I need something that will accommodate an infant, an English Bulldog, a Newfoundland and a husband. I'd love to hear your car suggestions! You can email me at melissa@budgetsavvymag.com.
