Despite the fact that I am not a fan of musicals, one of my favorite movies is Gigi. I remember the very first time I saw it. I was flipping channels and stumbled on a scene of young Gigi getting a lesson in properly serving coffee from her Aunt Alicia. I was 10 years old and mesmerized. To this day, I think that Leslie Caron, as Gigi is one of the most enchanting creatures ever on screen.

I recently picked up a copy of the book by Colette. As I read, I realized just how many times I had seen the movie as the dialogue is fairly faithful to the book. I could practically recite it!

It has been at least 12 years since I last saw the movie – just a few years before beginning my Budget Savvy life. I was surprised to see how similar the lifestyle of Gigi and her family is to the Budget Savvy lifestyle. Having to make their money stretch as far as possible, they make the most of what they have. They eat delicious, fresh food cooked at home. They pay attention to fashion and do their best with what they have. Although their furnishings are worn, they are well cared for, polished and clean. In fact, part of the story line is that Gaston, Gigi's love interest, finds great comfort in the simplicity of Gigi's home.

If you have not seen the movie, I highly recommend it – despite the music and singing.
