I briefly glanced over a book review last week about a couple who decided to refrain from making any extraneous purchases for one year. No convenience foods. No dinner out with friends. No travel. No books. No cable TV.

I like the idea of challenges. Occasionally, I will challenge myself to eat out of my pantry for a week. Short term challenges like this are doable and they force you to be creative. It’s amazing the things you can do with pantry remnants!

The no purchasing for a year concept is interesting and if I can find the title of the book again, I will track it down and read it. I am always fascinated by these types of stories. However, this is not something I would take on myself.

Although I am not a big shopper, I love to travel and go out to dinner with friends. I enjoy adding the occasional blouse or shoes to my wardrobe. I like to spend money on the things that are important to me. That is the entire message of Budget Savvy. It isn’t about being frugal to the point of discomfort. As far as I’m concerned, that’s no way to live.
