The Best of Hair Care Products & Tools

One recommendation
is worth a thousand advertisements. We’ve tracked down product and tool suggestions from stylists and our readers. Here is what they had to say:

Joanie Chan at Koko Salon in San Mateo

For thinner hair I like to use Matrix Amplify Root Lifter ($11.95 for 8.5 oz). It gives thinner hair more body and makes it look fuller."
Carla Ada of San Mateo, CA

I like to wash my hair every other day, so I use Johnson’s Baby Powder ($5.29 for 22 oz.) on the off days. My trick is to put a clean nylon over my hand and pour the powder onto the nylon. I then run it through the roots of my hair. The nylon and powder absorb the grease. My hair always looks its best after I do this.
Barbara Fazio of B-Fazio Salon as told to Ginger Burnett for Cleveland.com.

If your hair is long or thick, you can cut drying time in half with Aquis Microfiber Hair Towels ($18).
Ionic Hair Dryers ($20-$80) dry the hair faster, eliminate frizz, and leave hair shinier and healthier
Rebecca Boyle of Nashville, TN

I have fine thin hair. The best product I have found is Johnson’s Baby Shampoo Detangling Formula ($3.50). No need for a separate conditioner. My hair has never been in better shape.
Sharon Widup at This is It in Berkeley, CA

The best shampoos and conditioners on the market, in my opinion, are from Matrix. They have several lines including Biolage, Sleek, Curl.Life, Color Smart, Essential Therapy, Amplify to name a few. Matrix has a new reconstructor line called, Biolage Cera Repair ($14.95 for 5 .5 oz tubes). It is nothing short of a miracle in a tube. I've had clients that have ruined their hair with home coloring use it to stop breakage and have been able to save hair that otherwise would have had to been cut off. I don't work for Matrix, but I probably should.

Lizbeth Gonzalez of San Mateo, CA

With the Remington Protect & Shine Wet to Straight Flat Iron ($29.99) you can straighten your hair wet and your hair WON'T frizz. It creates shine and I can use it everyday because it doesn’t damage my hair. With my other flat iron I couldn’t straighten my hair while wet and I had to use additional products to add shine. Also, I couldn’t use it everyday because it damaged my hair.
