Cheap, Easy and Delicious Brownies |

My friend Petek moved into a beautiful new home a few weeks ago. In an effort to motivate herself to put the house together as quickly as possible, she threw a housewarming party on Saturday night.
Dante and I stopped by her house on the day she moved in and brought an orchid for her at that time. I didn't want to come to the party empty handed though, so I decided to make one of my favorite brownie recipes.
The recipe actually starts weeks and even months in advance. That is when I keep an eye out for brownie mix on sale. Duncan Hines is my favorite and I can often get it on sale for just $1 a box. The secret to the brownies is the bag of Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips that I add which I can usually get on sale for $2.50. So, for $3.50 I am able to bake delicious brownies and claim the recipe as my own. Yeah, the recipe is simplistic, but they are always a big hit.
Unfortunately, I pulled a rookie move and took the brownies out of the oven too soon. When I went to cut them a few hours later, they were woefully undercooked and not salvageable. I ended up stopping by the grocery store on my way to the party and picked up a bottle of wine. This didn't turn out to be my most budget savvy venture, but that's ok. Being budget savvy 99% of the time allows for the occasional kitchen catastrophe.
As a side note, Petek's strategy of holding a housewarming party as motivation to get her house in order as quickly as possible worked. The already gorgeous house was made even more beautiful with Petek's furnishings and décor. It perfectly reflects her warm and inviting personality.
