Guest Post from my friend Dreah of Pacifica, CA:
Every couple of weeks we have been receiving by mail blank checks from Bank of America, promising 0% APR until some date in the future. And every month I shred them and throw them away. But I always worry that somebody will steal them out of our mailbox, sign them and cash them fraudulently. Although I would not be responsible for such criminal activity, it would still show up on my credit report and make life difficult.
I called up the BofA telephone number supplied in the correspondence, and they were (reportedly) glad to halt the sending of these checks.
One of the reasons we can afford to live in this beautiful area is because we don't owe anybody (except the mortgage people) any money. We'd like to keep it that way, no matter how attractive the offer is.
Note from Melissa: The last time I was in Fresno visiting my family, my mom was shredding similar checks for my grandmother. Mom, when you read this, give BofA a call and ask them to stop sending those checks. Dreah, on behalf of me, my mom and my grandmother, thank you for the info!
