Typically, I don't go out of my way to purchase organic products, with one exception. When Dante started drinking cow's milk, I only purchased organic. I didn't want Dante consuming BGH (Bovine Grown Hormone).

He goes through approximately two gallons of milk a week. In my area, the cheapest price that I could find on organic milk was $5.99. At two gallons a week, that is $12 per week, $48 per month and $624 per year.

I was chatting about how expensive organic milk is with my friend Kathy. When she asked why I purchase organic, I explained about wanting to avoid BGH. She told me that there are several milk brands on the market that are not organic, but that don't use milk from cows injected with BGH.

The next time I went to Safeway I read the labels on the various milk brands and discovered that Lucerne is BGH free. I was thrilled because it is not only hormone free, it is also just $3.99 per gallon and occasionally goes on sale from there. I am now spending just $8 per week, $32 per month and $416 per year on milk. That's a savings of $208 per year… just on milk.

Thank you Kathy!!
